The wait is over for the new Hyundai Santro as Hyundai unveils it. Code named AH2, the car will be officially launched on October 23rd as the New Santro. The booking commences online on Oct 10th at an introductory price tag.
The Santro Moniker
Talking about the new chic in town, Hyundai brings back the Santro badge after a majority of customer voted for this name for the new hatch. The car is is a plush new one with loads of segment leading features. The spy image has already surfaced on the web which highlights the Hyundai’s cascade design in the front.
Design
From the images, the front end design features a big swept back headlamps with DRL’s. A large black cascade grille occupies the entire bumper region with chrome lining at the middle. It also houses the foglamps which has moved up closer to headlamps. The side profile shows ORVM’s with integrated indicatorsThe rear is not that tall boy as was widely expected. It features a wide windscreen with wrap around tail lamp. The variant spotted features, rear wipers and washers. The number plate moves down on to the rear bumper as opposed to i20. The car is longer with bigger wheelbase than the original Santro making it more comfortable.
Architecture
The all new Santro is built on an all new platform and features 63% Advanced High strength steel in its construction. Hyundai says the design theme is based on “Rhythmical Tension” that adds a sport character to the car.
Interiors
The interiors as seen is plush with beige and black dual tone upholstery. A new 7 inch touch screen infotainment adorns the center console. Silver inserts on the air con borders and on the gear knob adds to a rich feel. The air con controls are rotary knobs suggesting absence automatic climate control. Few buttons are seen besides gear knob
Comfort
Santro features a segment first rear air con vent. The car is to offer multi functional steering wheel. It is equipped with Hyundai’s patent ‘Eco Coating Technology’ which prevents unpleasant odour to develop in the AC evaporator by degrading the micro-organisms.
Safety.
To meet the upcoming safety standards, car will have ABS+EBD with driver airbags as standard. The touch screen is to have Android Auto, Apple connect and Mirror linking features along with voice recognition. It will also have a rear parking camera display and may feature guidelines.
Engine
The all-new Santro is equipped with the 4-cylinder 1.1 litre petrol motor that develops 67.5 horsepower and 99 nm of torque. This engine is also BS VI compliant. The all-new Santro will be the first Hyundai model to offer in-house developed Smart Auto AMT Technology and will have a factory fitted CNG option as well. Mileage figures are not yet out but 20 Kmpl and 30 Kmpl for petrol and CNG version is stated. Company claims the engine to be smooth with low vibrations offering superior performance and fuel efficiency
Owning it
Yes, Hyundai is starting to accept prebooking the car on 10th of October till 22nd at 11000 rs. A limited 50000 customer will be given this introductory offer and the booking is online. With the price of the base variant likely to start at Rs 4 lakh the Hyundai Santro will take on rivals like the Maruti WagonR, Tata Tiago and Maruti Celerio

The new Santro will come with a 3.years/1,00,000 kms warranty along with 3 years Road Side Assistance.
